Matt Kuchar, USA

American golfer Matt Kuchar has enjoyed a successful career dating back to 2000, featuring a series of triumphs on his native PGA Tour as well as a number of notable performances in major championships.

Born in Winter Park, Florida, in June 1978, Kuchar graduated from Seminole High School in 1996 before becoming a two-time first-team All-American on the golf team while attending Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

In 1998 Kuchar won the US Amateur and received the Haskins Award as the nation’s number one collegiate competitor. He then became a low amateur at both the Masters and U.S. Open events before turning professional in 2000.

Despite some early career struggles, including losing his Tour card after finishing 159 on the money list in 2005, Kuchar continued to work hard both on and off the course, regaining his Tour status and ultimately becoming one of the most consistent PGA players. Securing 30-top-10 finishes between 2009 and 2012.

During the 2012 season the talented player was on form with two-top-five finishes in tournaments featuring some of the world’s best competitors, including a third place finish at the Masters. Kuchar finished just two strokes adrift of compatriot Bubba Watson and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen during the event, which saw him lose out on the crown with a bogey on the par-three 16th hole.

Luckily, the professional was back on form to win the biggest event of his career the following month when he triumphed at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. During the competition, Kuchar - who has built a lucrative career on being stead rather than a constant winner - plotted his way around the course and eased into a two-under par final round score of 70.

Four players - Ben Curtis, Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson and Martin Laird - finished in a tie for second place, while then-world number one Luke Donald came in with an impressive six-under 66 that included 30 on the back nine.

2013 continued to be a successful time for Kuchar. With the Bridgestone golfer securing his first World Golf Championship in February at the Accenture Match Play Championship as well as winning the Memorial Tournament later that year.

Kuchar’s consistency on the course looks set to continue. As of May 2015 the American had made 13 cuts of 13 events played, recording 8-top-25 finishes.
