Cristie Kerr, USA

Cristie Kerr is an American golfer on the LPGA Tour who has enjoyed an incredibly successful career record over the past two decades.

Born in Miami, Florida in October 1977, Kerr began playing competitive golf at the age of nine and quickly showed great potential, even playing on her high school’s Boys Golf Team.

Amateur success followed with Kerr winning Low-Amateur honours at the U.S. Women’s Open as well as playing in the Curtis Cup.

Kerr turned professional at the age of 18, gaining confidence and momentum with each season. In 2002 her hard work and determination paid off as Kerr claimed her first professional win at the Longs Drugs Challenge.

The victories continued to come Kerr’s way as she steadily progressed up the rankings. Claiming many titles and accolades, including her first major at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open as well as numerous Solheim Cup appearances.

In 2010 Kerr picked up her second major victory at the LPGA Championship and became the first American golfer to reach number one in the official Rolex Rankings. The following year Kerr was presented with the Muhammad Ali Award for Sportsperson of the year as well as becoming the top American money winner in LPGA history.

Kerr continues to be a force on the LPGA Tour, having earned 5-top-10 finishes in 2013 as well as her 16th win after a sudden-death playoff with Suzann Pettersen at the Kingsmill Championship. A tournament Kerr is the only multiple victor of, having also won the event in 2005 and 2009.

Off the course Kerr is a dedicated activist for Breast Cancer Research. A cause close to the golfer’s heart, having watched her mother, godmother and aunt battle the disease. In 2003 Kerr founded the Birdies for Breast Cancer, a non-for-profit organisation in an effort to raise money and awareness to help fight the disease.
