I originally had the previous model (SC200) for a few weeks before reading this model was coming out. I love the SC200 and the features it had on there (Practice, Target and Random) modes. I though this device was also fairly accurate when the ball was hit well.
Seeing that the newer model was coming out with an App that recorded the stats much better, I returned the SC200 and then had the SC300 from day one.
I've now used this around five times since having it, taking it to the golf range to try out.
I really like the device itself, the build quality looks nicer than the SC200 did. Having the extra stats like the Launch Angle and Apex are also nice to have.
The device syncs with the App instantly when you're using it, or will store swings and sync when the App is then loaded later. Changes to the mode or clubs made on the phone are then updated back to the SC300 also.
There are a few issues though between having owned the SC200 to this newer and improved version.
For some reason, the Random mode has now gone completely. This was a good feature of the old model that would pick random distances and score you on how close you were to these. This was a good feature that helped with short game practice.
The 'Target' feature isn't as meaningful this time around either. Again, on the SC200 you could pick a target distance and get scored on how close you were it. This was another good function that you could then use the device to have a bit of competition with your friends with.
Now, however on the SC300, you select your target, but there's no scoring option this time around. The stats taken from this mode simply end up in the main stats of all your swings.
Practice mode is the same as before, except now of course you have a decent App that shows you how many times you used a particular club and then a break down of averages and max stats, for overall and a session. So you could see if you were hitting your 7 iron on average better from one session to another. I've not had enough sessions yet to fill the screen, but it will be interesting to see how the device starts showing these.
I also preferred having the AA batteries of the SC200. That way if the batteries ran out during a session, you could simply pop new ones in, rather than having to take it home to charge or think about having to buy a USB power bank.
So, overall, pretty decent, but I do hope that Voice Caddie invest a bit of time into the App. In the few weeks I've had it, there's been a few App updates and Firmware updates to the Device also.
So, an improvement in many ways over to the older SC200, but then questionable removing of great functions that were part of the older model.
Hopefully they'll listen to customer feedback and improve on the App
