Mizuno Pro has consistently been at the forefront of invention, showcasing cutting-edge engineering tucked away within precise playing profiles that are highly coveted by elite golfers. This product represents the culmination of a rich legacy of innovations, each step refining the game experience for players.
"The concept of Mizuno Pro can be misunderstood – we're not attempting to create instant classics or mere pieces of art. Rather, Mizuno masterfully conceals technology. This could be interpreted as the ultimate betrayal of Mizuno Pro. However, its true essence has always been about making history – not being confined to it." Chris Voshall, Product Manager – Mizuno Golf
"From an engineering perspective, the Mizuno Pro 223 marks the most significant advance of the three new irons. The 221 and 225 are refined iterations of their predecessors (MP-20 & MP-20 HMB) – yet the 223 is an entirely new concept. It features an exceptionally compact players profile, with every dimension reduced compared to the iron it replaces, along with Chromoly Forged construction and a hidden micro-slot from 4-7 iron." David Llewellyn – Director of R&D
MIZUNO PRO 221 - The Ultimate Muscleback.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic blades of Mizuno's history, the Mizuno Pro 221 has been refined to enhance playability through meticulous adjustments in shape and weight distribution. With a bevelled design that provides the illusion of a shorter face profile and a slimmer top line, it maintains mass in the upper blade. This model features significantly more compact scoring irons than its predecessors. Grain Flow Forged in Hiroshima, Japan, complemented by a soft copper underlay guarantees a uniquely satisfying feel upon impact.
- FORGED IN HIROSHIMA, JAPAN: One-piece Grain Flow Forged HD from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel, meticulously crafted at Mizuno's revered facility in Hiroshima, Japan – home to Mizuno irons since 1968.
- SOFT COPPER UNDERLAY: A fine layer of copper beneath Nickel Chrome, delivering the softest feel, a hallmark of the legendary TN87, reintroduced in 2019.
- THICKER BEHIND IMPACT: By relocating mass from the heel to the muscle pad, this iron produces a subtly muted sound that is favoured in our 'blind' tour tests.
- SHORTER & MORE COMPACT APPEARANCE: Cleverly bevelled to achieve a visual of a thinner top edge and shorter head without compromising playability.
- CONTROLLED SHOT SHAPING: Mizuno’s shortest centre of gravity/shaft axis remains consistent from 3-PW, allowing for controlled fades and draws throughout the set.
- NOTICEABLY SMALLER SHORT IRONS: In response to tour feedback, the dimensions of 8-PW have been significantly reduced, featuring a heavily taped upper blade to regulate trajectory.
"We're clearly making careful progress with a Mizuno muscleback – extracting any negative feedback requires significant effort. The copper underlay and Grain Flow forging provide an excellent basis for the MP-20. Players with a discerning eye will appreciate the subtle shape modifications across the set – particularly in the 8, 9, PW." - David Llewellyn, Director of R&D
