The WedgeWorks A Grind is a meticulously designed low bounce lob wedge, characterised by a narrow, smooth sole that delivers a swift feel through the turf.
Boasting 4 degrees of bounce, this innovative wedge is perfect for golfers seeking to easily slide the leading edge beneath the ball and achieve a higher trajectory, especially when playing from firm turf and bunkers.
Initially developed through collaboration between Vokey Tour Representative Aaron Dill and 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, this wedge was engineered with a specific need in mind—Ogilvy wanted a wedge that could glide through firm turf with greater efficiency than his previous L Grind model. Dill took Ogilvy's insights and refined the design by eliminating the ribbon from the L grind, resulting in a sleek sole that penetrates the ground with minimal resistance.
Dill shares, “I spoke with Geoff, and we got on the topic of Australian golf courses and how they compared to courses in America and around the world. I asked him some specific questions which resulted in an idea to design another lob wedge grind option that complemented the firm links-style conditions that players face – not just in Australia and Europe – but globally. Geoff has always been a low bounce player in his 60-degree, so I took his 60 L Grind wedge and removed the ribbon, resulting in a grind that moves through the turf quickly with very little resistance.”
As with many low bounce wedges, the A Grind requires precise delivery at impact for optimal performance.
