Mizuno ST-230 Series – The Missing Piece
After four years of rapid-fire development and input from Mizuno’s Tour staff, the brand’s latest metalwoods look to be gaining equal footing to the iconic Mizuno irons. After multiple iterative developments for stability, sound and spin, Mizuno is zoning in on ball speed and the new CORTECH Chamber is what’s making all the difference.
So, what exactly is the CORTECH Chamber? Essentially, it’s a way to reduce stress from the face. The CORTECH Chamber encases a stainless-steel weight with elastomeric TPU. Mizuno states that this helps to take stress from the clubface and creates an additional energy source. At the same time, moving the weight closer to the clubface helps to reduce spin rates, whilst also contributing to a more solid, powerful sensation at impact.
Featuring a sleek black design with sharp blue accents, the new ST 320 Series looks good and sounds good. Let’s explore the models more and talk about which club would suit you.
2 Driver Models to Ensure Every Player is Covered
ST-X 230 – More Workable, Mild Draw Biased
“The new ST-X 230 is a complex character. Although in the higher loft option it’s a higher flying draw biased option, the 9.5 for many of our tour players was more workable and faster from the face. You really need to hit both models before making any judgements on which is likely to work best for you.”
CHRIS VOSHALL – GOLF CLUB ENGINEER AT MIZUNO GOLF
Fact Finder : Featuring a more rounded, deeper profile with weight located closer to the hosel, the X model will produce slightly higher spinning and draw biased for the majority of players, and more workability for many elite golfers (this is especially true in the lower lofts).
Who’s it for? Those players who slice the ball, or natural drawers can expect better ball speeds from the X. For the player who wants control.
ST-Z 230 – Straight, Stable and Low Spinning
“Tour tests for the ST 230 SERIES have all been very consistent – relief that the look is similar at address. Then shock at how much better the new ST-Z 230 feels off the face. Ball speeds are up on average 2-5mph with a drop in back spin of around 200 rpm.”
CHRIS VOSHALL – GOLF CLUB ENGINEER AT MIZUNO GOLF
Fact Finder : Similar in look and character to the previous ST-Z model, the new Z 230 offers a straight bias driver with great stability on off-centre hits. Featuring a great combination of deeper CG and shorter CG distance for a balance and workability in both directions whilst still providing higher MOI and mid/low spin.
Who’s it for? A more neutral option, it’s a modern players profile club that helps you go straighter.
The ST-Z 230 Fairway Woods & Hybrids
Fairway Woods That are Straight, Stable and High Launching
“The CORTECH Chamber is very effective on the fairway woods and hybrids as it does such a good job of lowering the sweet spot – maintaining ball speeds when you have to pinch one from a tight fairway.”
