Do I need a divot repair tool to play golf?Etiquette is a huge part of playing golf. And ensuring you leave the course as you found it is a major part of good golf course etiquette. A divot repair tool is easy to use and small enough to fit in your pocket or golf bag. While failing to repair a small ball mark might seem insignificant to some, there are in fact serious problems that can occur due to damage of the green. At GolfOnline we stock a huge range of divot repair tools to help ensure you’re ready for every eventuality on the course.
How do I fix a divot on the golf course?According to the USGA, you should use your divot repair tool and insert the two prongs behind the ball mark. Then gently pull the top of the tool toward the centre. Continue working around the ball mark, pulling the surrounding turf in toward the centre of the indentation. Try to not use a twisting or lifting motion, as this can damage the turf roots. When you have finished pulling the turf in toward the centre, gently push down the area with your putter to create a smooth, firm surface.
